Mercury and Metal Free Dentistry

We are commited to removing toxic materials such as mercury and using safe non-metal alternatives.

Mercury Free Dentistry and Toxin Removal

There has been a general reduction in the use of amalgam fillings in the UK over the past few years, which is in our opinion a very positive step in the right direction, and in 2018 it will be illegal in EU countries to use amalgam fillings altogether in children. I think we can all agree on where the trend is ultimately heading.

At Munro-Hall Clinic, it has been our cornerstone principal for many years to operate a completely metal free dental practice, for a wide variety of reasons that can be discussed further during a when we welcome you here at the clinic. We are also one of the few clinics in the UK to have a very well documented and IAOMT (International Association of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) specific protocol in place to remove amalgam fillings safely, with absolutely minimum exposure of released mercury and its vapor to the patient.

Toxic Metal Removal: Mercury Amalgam

This protocol for “Safe Amalgam Removal” is acknowledged and endorsed by the IAOMT, with which all our dentists are active members. It is partially this protocol that has attracted many of our patients from other parts of the country, as well as from overseas.

The protocol is explained to each patient at their initial consultation (provided they need this procedure). With respect to amalgam restorations or replacement, we pride ourselves in providing a small handful of alternative biologically compatible materials that have been extensively researched, and demonstrate better performance characteristics than amalgam, while being safe to use.

One composite filling material of choice that we use is imported from Switzerland and is completely free of any potentially allergenic and cytotoxic impact. Most composite materials used in general dentistry have some level of Bis-DMA (ultimately contributing to BPA release in the mouth), and often contain HEMA and TEGDMA elements that may potentially be allergenic. We feel it is vital to offer a close to ideal alternative material that is congruent with our ethos and true to biologically-neutral dentistry as far as possible.
